Shear Zone on Albino Property in Kilometre 88, Venezuela, Second Drill Rig Mobilized
Crystallex International Corporation (the ''Company'') is pleased to announce preliminary results from the latest phase of its 1996 diamond drill program at its Albino property located adjacent to Placer Dome's (PDG) Las Cristinas property and Gold Reserve's (GLDR) Brisas del Cuyuni concession, which together contain 20 million ounces of gold. As of September 6, 1996, 12 holes (ALB-96-07 to ALB-96-19) totalling 2,666 metres have been completed and preliminary results from 11 holes have been obtained from the Company's lab located on the property. Check assays of all mineralized intersections are being carried out at independent labs in Venezuela and Canada.
Drilling to date has focused on the lateral and down plunge continuity between sections 4850 N and 4925 N of shear-hosted gold mineralization exposed at the Conductora pit between sections 4900 N and 4975 N. All 12 holes intersected gold mineralization at vertical depths in the 100 metre to 225 metre range. The best intersections included 7.58 metres of 10.08 g/t Au including 1.22 metres of 35.66 g/t Au in hole ALB-96-09 and 7.10 metres of 5.04 g/t Au in hole ALB-96-11, both drilled on section 4850 N. Mineralization in hole ALB-96-9 is hosted by sheared metavolcanics. Hole ALB-96-11 encountered mineralization in a dioritic host. All other holes drilled to date intersected gold mineralization in a sheared dioritic host which carries gold values ranging from 2.61 g/t Au over 5.68 metres in hole ALB-96-16 to 3.71 g/t Au over 5.07 metres in hole ALB-96-14. Shorter intervals within these intersections assayed up to 7.74 g/t Au over 1.44 metres. A previously unidentified, narrow, high grade zone assaying 25.79 g/t Au over 0.75 metres was penetrated in hole ALB-96-12.
The lower grades found in the diorite seem to reflect a less reactive host and a lack of flexuring within the shear zone. This implies that higher grades are to be expected at depth and along strike if changes occur in the lithologic host and/or in the geometry of the shear zone.
Based upon the encouraging results to date, the Company has just added a second rig and plans to complete 10,000 metres of drilling by late October. Additional drilling will include sectional drilling between the La Conductora, and Aguao 2 pits, deep drilling along the plunge of the Conductora shear, deeper drilling below the Aguao 2 pit and drilling of surface targets in the northwestern sector of the property. Concomitantly with the diamond drilling program, the Company is conducting an exploratory backhoe trenching program throughout the Albino I concession.
In addition, the Company is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. A. Richard Marshall as Vice-President Corporate Development. In that capacity Mr. Marshall will oversee all investor relations functions and will be responsible for corporate strategic developments.
On Behalf of the Board,
